Support and Confidential Advisors for Researchers

Tilburg University provides several channels for researchers to ask questions, express concerns, or report suspected misconduct:

At a central level:

  • A PhD confidential advisor, Barend de Rooij. He is professionally trained, officially certified, and bound by confidentiality. Anything discussed with centrally appointed confidential advisors remains private, and you retain full control over how your issue is handled. If you’d rather speak to another centrally appointed confidential advisor, you’re welcome to do so.
  • Two confidential advisors on Research Integrity are available to discuss any concerns or complaints related to research integrity.
  • The ombudsperson offers independent support for issues such as unclear regulations, unfair treatment, or conflicts with the university. Unlike confidential advisors, the ombudsperson can act independently and investigate systemic issues when existing procedures fall short.
  • The PhD psychologist who offers psychological support for issues related to or impacting your PhD journey.
  • The occupational health physician, is a specialist in work and health who supports your sustainable employability and wellbeing.
  • A mental health helpline staffed by a company counselor. The helpline offers anonymous, confidential support and a listening ear for psychological concerns.
  • The Tilburg PhD Platform (TiPP) is the consultation body for PhD candidates. They actively support PhD candidates by collaborating with Graduate Schools and promoting inter-school connections. They also addresses challenges by sharing experiences and best practices.

At the school level:

  • Every Graduate School has PhD coordinators that can be valuable first points of contact that can offer a listening ear and help you navigate TiU’s broader support network.
  • Every school has a PhD council that promotes the interests of its PhD candidates.
