2.6. Applying limits & Refining results

Limits

Limits let you narrow the focus of your search so that the information retrieved from the database is limited according to the values you select. In some databases limits are only available on the Advanced Search page. 

Limiters may be selected from the Limits section at the start of your search, as shown below:

Refining results 

Once you've ran a search the database will present a result list that allows you to apply limits (aka filters) to refine your results. Some of the main limits you can expect to find include:

  • publication date 
  • source type
    • scholarly journals
    • trade journals
    • dissertations
    • working papers
    • books
    • book chapters)
    • ...
  • subject
  • publication/source (e.g. journal title) 
  • language
