About the InfoSkills tutorials

The InfoSkills tutorials are created by the university library to introduce incoming students to scholarly sources, effective search strategies, and key databases. There are seven tutorials in total, which are partly generic and partly targeted at the various programs taught at Tilburg University.

We have designed the tutorials so that they can be integrated into a course, or used for self-study by anyone interested in the basics of information literacy. The tutorials are available all year round.

In the academic year 2024-2025 all first-year and nearly all pre-master's students at our university are required to complete InfoSkills as part of their program.

  1. Choose the tutorial for your school/program.
  2. Study the tutorial carefully.
  3. Take the InfoSkills test, available via the last page of the tutorial.

InfoSkills: Key details and test info

Is InfoSkills mandatory?
Yes. InfoSkills is mandatory for all freshmen and almost all premaster's students. The InfoSkills tutorials are embedded in the university curriculum

Is InfoSkills also available in Dutch?
No. InfoSkills is only available in English. A partial exemption has been made for the programs Rechtwetenschappen and Bestuurskunde. 

What do I need to know about the test?

  • The InfoSkills test is an online test that you can take from home at any time, as long as you complete it before the deadline.
  • To be eligible to take the test you must be officially enrolled at Tilburg University. 
  • On the last page of each tutorial is a link to the test platform TestVision, where the test is ready for you.
  • The test has no time limit. Take all the time you need. 
  • The test consists of 25 questions.
  • The maximum score is 64.
  • The passing score is 48 (5,5).
  • You have three attempts on your test before its due date.

When can I take my test?
On the 'Take the test' pages, you will find the dates during which the tests for each course are available.

How long will it take me to complete InfoSkills?
Approximately 3-4 hours (test included).
