Email alerts for new articles

You can now sign up to receive email alerts when new articles appear in your favorite journals, using our Library Access extension. This way, you receive all subscriptions from one party, and you can manage all alerts in a single location.

Most journals offer to email you when a new issue is published. If you sign up for many of those email alerts, chances are these will arrive from different providers, using different email subjects and sender addresses. It can be hard to keep track of all your subscriptions that way. This is where our journal alerts come in.

Subscribe to alerts

To sign up, go to Google Scholar and search for your journal. If you have Library Access extension installed, you should see a “Subscribe to ToC Alert” button on the right side of your screen. Click the button to sign up for Table of Contents alerts. If no button is displayed, it means there is no alert option available for that particular journal.

On the next screen, enter your email address and follow the instructions. You will receive a confirmation email after subscribing. This mail includes a link to access all your current subscriptions.

Receive alerts

Whenever the service detects new articles published in one of your journals, it will send you an email. The email contains links to the journals with new content. Emails are sent by “JournalAlert”, from the address notifications@journal-alert.com. You may wish to add this to your address book or allowed list to prevent mails ending up in your spam folder.

Manage alerts

Alerts are linked to the email address you used when subscribing. To see a list of your current subscriptions, click the “My Subscriptions” link in any of the emails.

Some remarks

Please note the following:

  • The only way to access your subscriptions is through the link included in your sign up mail and the mailed alerts. There is no website to log in to.
  • Your subscriptions are linked to the email address you used when you subscribed to an alert. If you sign up to some journals using yourname@uvt.nl, some other journals with yourname@tilburguniversity.edu and a couple using yourname@gmail.com, you have three separate lists of subscriptions to manage.
  • The link to access your subscriptions is a secret URL, linked to your email address. In theory, anyone with the link can see and delete your subscriptions. In other words, don’t share that link. The link is sufficiently secure to make it impossible for other people to guess your particular link.
