Regelmatig stellen nieuwe collega’s zich voor. Maar er zijn ook collega’s die hier al langer werken. Wie zijn zij en wat doen zij? In deze post een bijdrage van Eric van den Akker.
Ik ben de law librarian van Tilburg University, ofwel de collectiespecialist verantwoordelijk voor de juridische en bestuurskundige collectie van de bibliotheek, en voor de ondersteuning bij het gebruik hiervan. 
In mijn functie ben ik verantwoordelijk voor de juiste besteding van het budget informatiedragers van de bibliotheek aan wetenschappelijke materialen (boeken, tijdschriften, informatiebestanden) voor studenten, onderzoekers en docenten van Tilburg Law School en andere bezoekers van de bibliotheek. Dit alles in samenspraak met de School en de bibliotheekcommisie daarvan.
Ook ontwikkel en verzorg ik informatievaardigheden voor studenten en medewerkers, en individuele ondersteuning bij het vinden en verwerken van (juridische) bronnen.
Voor medewerkers van de Law School ben ik aanspreekpunt als het om allerlei zaken gaat die de bibliotheek betreffen, ook bijvoorbeeld over onderzoeksdata, open access, de inrichting en het gebruik van de bibliotheek en onderwijsmateriaal. Ik kan dan voor onderwerpen waar ik niet veel van weet altijd doorverwijzen naar collega’s met meer expertise.
Ik ben contactpersoon voor de bibliotheek in het Scriptorium, het samenwerkingsverband tussen Talencentrum en Bibliotheek voor ondersteuning bij schrijf- en informatievaardigheden.
Sinds vorig jaar ben ik ook aanspreekpunt van het Auteursrechten Informatiepunt van de universiteit. Voor vragen over hergebruik van auteursrechtelijk materiaal als student of docent, of rechten die je hebt als auteur van een werk kun je bij mij terecht.
Ik heb een flink deel van mijn leven vertoefd aan Tilburg University. Na rechten gestudeerd te hebben ben ik begonnen bij de toenmalige ‘Centrale Interfaculteit’ als bureauredacteur bij een rechtsfilosofisch bibliografisch tijdschrift (Current Legal Theory). Na omzwervingen bij de Law School als medewerker bij een onderzoeksproject ben ik in de bibliotheek begonnen, waar ik diverse functies heb gehad, onder andere als functioneel beheerder als directe collega van Richard Broekman (zijn introductie staat een eindje hieronder ;)). En nu ben ik dus de law librarian.

I am Tilburg University's law librarian, the collection specialist responsible for the library's collection on Law and Administration, and for supporting its use.
One of my responsibilities is the proper use of the library's budget for purchasing academic materials (books, journals, information databases) for students, researchers and lecturers of Tilburg Law School and other visitors to the library. All this in consultation with the Law School and its library committee.
I also develop and train information skills for students and staff, and individual support in finding and processing (legal) sources.
As the law librarian, I am also a point of contact for Law School staff when it comes to all kinds of issues concerning the library, including, for example, research data, open access, the arrangement and use of the library, and teaching materials. I can always refer you to colleagues with more expertise for subjects I don't know much about.
I am liaison for the library in the Scriptorium, the partnership between the Language Centre and the Library for support in writing and information skills.
Since last year, I have also become the contact for the university's Copyright Information Point. For questions about reuse of copyright material as a student or as a teacher, or about the rights you have as an author, you can contact me.
I have spent a good part of my life at Tilburg University. After studying law, I started at the then 'Central Interfaculty' as desk editor at a bibliographic journal on legal philosophy (Current Legal Theory). After peregrinations in the Law School as a collaborator on a research project and as documentalist, I started at the library, where I held various positions, including that of functional administrator as a direct colleague of Richard Broekman (his introduction is a bit below ;)). And now I’m the Law Librarian.
