Regelmatig stellen nieuwe collega’s zich voor. Maar er zijn ook collega’s die hier al langer werken. Wie zijn zij en wat doen zij? In deze post een bijdrage van Richard Broekman.
Ik ben al lange tijd werkzaam bij LIS als functioneel beheerder van “de digitale bibliotheek” (bibliotheeksystemen). Destijds nog speciaal, maar tegenwoordig is de bibliotheek voor een groot deel digitaal. Ik zorg er mede voor dat onderzoekers, docenten en studenten toegang hebben tot de grote verzameling van informatiebronnen die we online aanbieden. Van losse tijdschriften tot grote databases. Daarbij houd ik me voornamelijk bezig met de technische aspecten, door het beheren van EZproxy (voor toegang buiten de campus), het overzicht van onze bestanden in Libsearch en de browser extensies Lean Library Access en LibKey Nomad om de toegang nog eenvoudiger te maken. Uiteraard zorg ik ook dat onze boeken- en tijdschriftencollectie doorzoekbaar is via WorldCat Discovery. Voor de collega’s beheer ik ook ons bibliotheeksysteem voor het bestellen, catalogiseren en uitlenen van boeken. Daarnaast zijn er nog meer werkzaamheden op de achtergrond, die minder zichtbaar zijn voor jou als gebruiker van onze voorzieningen. Af en toe lever ik ook een bijdrage aan dit weblog, meestal over de genoemde onderwerpen.
Ik streef ernaar de toegang tot onze informatie zo eenvoudig mogelijk te maken. Zolang nog niet alles open access en vrij toegankelijk wordt aangeboden blijft het helaas toch nog complexer dan ik zou willen.

I have been working at LIS for a long time as a functional manager of "the digital library" (basically most of our library systems). Back in the early days it was something special, but nowadays the library is largely digital. I help ensure that researchers, lecturers and students have access to the large collection of information sources that we offer online. From single journals to large databases. My main tasks focus on the technical aspects, by managing EZproxy (for off-campus access), the list of our databases in Libsearch, and the browser extensions Lean Library Access and LibKey Nomad to make your access to content even easier. Of course, I also make sure that our books and journals collections are searchable through WorldCat Discovery. For my colleagues, I also manage our library system for ordering, cataloguing and lending books. In addition, there are other activities in the background, which are less visible to you as a user of our services. Occasionally, I also contribute to this weblog, mostly writing about the topics mentioned earlier.
I strive to make access to our information as easy as possible. Until everything is offered open access and freely available, it unfortunately is still more complex than I would like.
I live within walking distance of the campus and work partly at home and partly in the library. In my spare time, I sometimes read a book or play a game. Favorites are cooperating in fantasy role-playing games and performing the strangest plays in the Magic the Gathering card game.
