I Do Like To Be On The Seaside - UKSG 2025 in Brighton

UKSG is an international association that exists to "connect the information community" and "encourage the exchange of ideas on scholarly communication“. The name UKSG originally stood for United Kingdom
Serials Group
, but the association is now known simply as UKSG as it has expanded beyond the UK and beyond serials to include e-books and other electronic resources. UKSG's 450 or so member organizations include libraries, publishers,  information suppliers, intermediaries and technology vendors from around the world. UKSG works to facilitate discussion, stimulate research, support the professional development of its members and disseminate information about the scholarly communications sector. It runs an annual conference in the spring and a One-Day Conference and Forum in the late autumn. It also runs regular seminars, webinars and training courses.

This year’s Spring conference took place from March 31 to April 2 at The Brighton Centre in Brighton.

In addition to a full program of lectures, workshops, break-out sessions and poster presentations, it is also THE opportunity for many library representatives to meet (in person) in a short time with nearly 100 publishers, intermediaries and other suppliers who have rented a booth here.

We did not speak with all of the nearly 100 publishers, but we did speak with more than 20. For example, we spoke with Springer Nature - Cambridge University Press - Taylor & Francis - MIT Press - De Gruyter Brill - Sage - Bloomsbury - Clarivate - Wiley - EBSCO - Oxford University Press - ACM - Karger - Edward Elgar - Statista - Research Solutions - Gale - etc.

During the talks, negotiations on price or conditions do not really take place, but are more about getting acquainted and new developments at the publishers/suppliers and how the state of affairs is at our Tilburg office. In addition, the conference is a great opportunity to meet librarians from other countries. Below some pictures of Brighton, The Brighton Centre and the conference.
