Nieuwe afspraken over het gebruik van auteursrechtelijk beschermd materiaal in Canvas

Met ingang van 2023 is er een nieuwe overeenkomst tussen UNL en vertegenwoordigers van uitgeversorganisaties voor het hergebruik van auteursrechtelijk materiaal in het onderwijs voor de jaren 2023-2025. Er is besloten dat materiaal, dat vanaf het nieuwe collegejaar wordt opgenomen in Canvas of papieren readers, aan een maximum van 40 pagina's en maximaal 20% van een boek of tijdschriftaflevering moet voldoen.

Een aantal punten om rekening mee te houden zijn:

  • Bronvermelding is verplicht bij alles wat je overneemt! Ook als je bijvoorbeeld plaatjes of grafieken uit een boek of tijdschriftartikel opneemt in een Powerpoint-presentatie of handout. De bronvermelding bestaat minimaal uit de auteur, titel van de publicatie en titel van de bron (tijdschrift, boek). Bij een artikel geef je ook het jaargang en afleveringsnummer.

  • Probeer zo veel mogelijk gebruik te maken van open access-publicaties. De universiteit hoeft geen vergoeding te betalen voor het overnemen van open access materialen.

  • Linken naar een publicatie mag altijd, mits de publicatie legaal openbaar gemaakt is. Ook hiervoor is de universiteit geen vergoeding verschuldigd. Probeer dus altijd de links van bv. e-books en tijdschriftartikelen te gebruiken, in plaats van het uploaden van PDF’s.

  • In de Easy Access-regeling is vastgelegd dat je maximaal 40 pagina’s uit een werk mag overnemen, met een maximum van 20% van dat werk. Een werk is een boek of een tijdschriftaflevering. Al het gebruik dat hierbinnen valt is door de Universiteit afgekocht via een afkoopsom.

New agreements for using copyrighted material in Canvas

As of 2023, there is a new agreement between UNL and representatives of publishing organizations for the reuse of copyrighted materials in education for the years 2023-2025. It was decided that materials, which will be included in Canvas or paper readers starting from the new college year, must meet a maximum of 40 pages and a maximum of 20% of a book or journal issue.

Some points to keep in mind are:

  • Source citation is mandatory for everything you copy! Even if you include, for example, pictures or graphics from a book or journal article in a Poewerpoint presentation or handout. The source citation consists of at least the author, title of the publication and title of the source (journal, book). For an article, also give the volume and issue number.
  • Try to use open access publications as much as possible. The university does not have to pay a fee for copying open access materials.
  • Linking to a publication is always allowed, provided the publication has been legally made public. The university does not have to pay a fee for this either. So always try to use the links of e.g. e-books and journal articles, instead of uploading PDFs.
  • The Easy Access regulation states that you may copy a maximum of 40 pages from a work, with a maximum of 20% of that work. A work is a book or magazine issue. All use that falls within this has been bought off by the University through a commutation fee.
