[This is a post from our colleagues of the Research Data Office]

Every researcher of Tilburg University can deposit research data sets free of charge in the data archive Tilburg University (TiU) Dataverse. A new manual is now available with instructions on how to prepare data sets and an overview of the available deposit options (self-deposit or deposit by Research Data Office). New in the manual is a step by step guide for a self-deposit by researchers.

Content of the Manual

  • When to deposit
  • Instructions for preparing data and related documentation
  • Different deposit procedures
  • A template data report
  • A step by step guide to the deposit process
  • Using metadata
  • Licensing data sets
  • Open or restricted access to your data set

TiU Dataverse is Tilburg University’s data archive for safe, findable and sustainable storage of research data. After the deposit a DOI is assigned to the dataset for easy reference in your publication or otherwise. In 2018, TiU Dataverse obtained the CoreTrustSeal quality mark.

Advantages of Dataverse compared to other data archives (such as OSF)

  • Sustainable solution: Tilburg University Dataverse is a trusted long term data repository which means we guarantee that the data will remain archived in the long term (this is often a condition of funders such as NWO, ZonMw or ERC). Should the Dataverse service stop, we guarantee that the data will be transferred to another “trustworthy” archive.
  • Data are stored in the Netherlands, so Dutch legislation applies. Other data archiving services may store data outside the Netherlands/Europe.
  • A research department can present all research data together in its own Dataverse.
  • On campus support by the data curators of the Research Data Office.
  • In the near future, it will be possible to link the data sets in Dataverse to Pure, which can increase the visibility of your research.
  • For the longer term, we are working on a procedure to securely archive data that contain personal data (encrypted and under strict conditions).
