Since October 2021, Frauke has been our new LIS Research Support colleague. She introduces herself in this blog post.

Hello. My name is Frauke van der Ven and late last year I joined the research support group of the university library as quartermaster hybrid spaces.

Uhh? Quartermaster hybrid spaces?

Yep, that’s my job title. Maybe program maker would be easier to understand, though that doesn’t cover it. My job rather concerns the part before and around that. Let’s uncover.

At this very moment, in our library, two new hybrid spaces are being built. These will have large screens and cameras for hybrid working, movable furniture for a flexible set up, and a capacity of about 18 people. At least one room will be open for bookings. Also, we would like to organise activities to help students, researchers and LIS-colleagues.

My job is to make a start with this. I talk to people, gather wishes, make an inventory of what we do, what we want to do and what can be done. Also, I try to spark some interest. Currently I’m busy with the making of an escape-room-like treasure hunt that will highlight the hybrid rooms, help with the gathering of wishes, and bring attention to other services that we as library have to offer. Most of all, I think it will be fun.

If you would like to participate in the try-out, or talk in whatever form about (your wishes for / participating in) the program of the hybrid rooms: feel free to contact me at f.vdrven@tilburguniversity.edu.
