Edoardo Constantini is our new LIS Research Support colleague. He introduces himself in this blog post.

On September 2, 2024, I started working as a Central Data (and Software) Steward in the Research Support team of the Tilburg University Library. In this role, I will help Tilburg University researchers responsibly manage the data and software they use and produce for their research.

In particular, my responsibilities involve:

  • Offering support on applying FAIR principles to research software written and used as part of Tilburg University research projects
  • Curating data for the storing platform DataverseNL, the online repository for research data used at Tilburg University.
  • Organizing trainings for researchers on good practices in research software development, using Dataverse, and more.
  • Writing and updating data and software management policy at Tilburg University

Background

I studied sociology in Italy and spent a lot of time learning statistics and developing research software in the Netherlands. During my Ph.D. Research I developed algorithms and open-source research software to address the problem of missing values in large social surveys. You can find my Ph.D. dissertation here.

When I'm not data and software stewarding, I'm probably...

  • organizing (and reorganizing) my intricate systems of note-taking apps and tools. I am currently using a killer combination of Obsidian Vaults, Apple Shortcuts, and iA Writer, but in a year, who knows...
  • watching movies or listening to a podcast about watching movies.
  • playing some new cool video game or doing just one more run of Balatro.

You might also find me at the nearest and coziest yoga center and sometimes at a bouldering gym.
