Since January 14, Puck has been our new LIS Research Support colleague. She introduces herself in this blog post.

My name is Puck Wildschut and I have just joined LIS Research Support as Coordinator of the Digital Competence Centre. In case you do not know what the DCC is: Don’t worry, because I am here to figure that out together with all of you!

According to NWO, which is providing us with a grant for starting up this centre, a DCC is an entity that provides expertise on digital research. Several universities in the Netherlands have already set up a DCC, and at Tilburg University we are in the early stages of fleshing out what our DCC is. Since digital research support is interdisciplinary in nature, setting up the DCC means that not only input from all corners of LIS is needed - from research data stewards to collection specialists, from IT support to Open Science specialists -, but that we also want to engage with the network of TiU researchers at the Schools to ensure the DCC facilitates the digital research you all do. All in all, we welcome questions and ideas you might have regarding the DCC or digital research support and hope to talk to many of you along the way.

Before joining Tilburg, I worked at Radboud University Nijmegen as a PhD candidate and lecturer in Literary and Cultural Studies & Linguistics. During that time, I also was a Researcher-in-residence at the KB National Library of the Netherlands. After getting my PhD, focusing on computational stylistics, I worked at RU as a policy maker. I enjoyed doing that, but I missed the engagement with research, which is why I decided to apply for a job as subject librarian Linguistics & Digital Humanities at Utrecht University Library, where I have worked for the past two years. In my position as Coordinator DCC in Tilburg I look forward to continue diving into the world of digital scholarship and contribute to the support that LIS is providing and expanding in this context.

In my non-working life in Tilburg, I like to cuddle with me and my partner’s three lovely cats, play bass guitar and working out.

Please feel free to contact me (P.A.Wildschut@tilburguniversity.edu) for getting to know each other or with work related questions. I look forward to meeting all of you!
