The Atlas of European Values is published once every nine years, and the most recent third edition flipped towards Open Access. This means this very colorful and data rich resource can be discovered by everyone without bumping into a paywall.
The Atlas was published Open Access by the Open Press Tilburg University, the press that was deployed within the university library in order to stimulate Open Access book publishing. The Atlas of European Values is part of the European Values Series, edited by scholars of the Department of Sociology of Tilburg University. Other volumes within this series (such as the liber amicorum for prof. dr. Loek Halman) will also be published Open Access from now on.
The Atlas of European Values: Change and Continuity in Turbulent Times presents the most recent data from the longitudinal European Values Study, that is running since 1981. The Atlas charts the similarities and differences in a wide range of values between the inhabitants of at least 35 European countries. It gives the views of Europeans on pressing topics such as migration, democracy, sustainability, welfare, identity, and solidarity in an attractive, visual way.
The printed version of the book was presented on 9 May in Brussels by sociologists from Tilburg University and handed over to Robert de Groot, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the European Union. The digital version (pdf) can be downloaded here, and it is also possible to acquire the printed copy (hardcover or softcover) via the webshop of Open Press Tilburg University.
